How To Survive A School Shooting

how to survive a school shooting

A couple of weeks ago I was looking through some old black and white movies and one had caught my eye - "How To Survive A School Shooting" starring Michael Douglas. The movie was released in 1979 but the storyline is very familiar today. As the school year began students were evacuated to the school gym for safety drills. One of these drills included a fake gun fight between students. The movie shows some really good lessons in how to survive such an attack as some of the participants get quite injured.

You see, people who run away from a school shooting are not usually hit so easily. Most of the time they are just dragged to the gym and left there until the real survivors arrive. Even then, they may be haled away through the hallways with the other students. Many of the people in the movie have guns that are real and they shoot at the fake gun guys. There is a lot of running around that you don't see in real life, and that is what makes it so fun. The kids are running around with sweaty clothes on and there is definitely a lot of chitchat going on.

Anyway, this movie has a great lesson in how to survive a school shooting. The first few minutes are excellent with some fast action with the gun fighting. The action scene is seamless and it really looks like the gun fight takes place in real life. It looks real enough that you can believe that the actors are acting, and that is what makes it a fun watch.

The second lesson is the use of the school lockouts to escape from the school. One of the main characters, the boy who wants to escape, is seen locking himself in a closet during a lock down drill. The other students rush to help him but he ends up getting shot in the leg. This leads to his friend running back into the classroom and the entire class eventually runs out of the school building, which is then shown in the film as they clear a classroom and take cover behind a trash can.

After this, they run to a nearby diner and while they are there, he is ambushed and taken captive by two men. The other escape through the back door and enter the school through the front doors. They shoot all the students and one, the girl, manages to get away from them. The group then proceeds to flee towards the woods while the helicopter hovers over.

These are some of the lessons found in this movie; although the plot is fictional, there are many things that you can learn from it. The lessons learned are to be able to hide and be able to escape. The other lesson is to learn about cooperation and how to work together.

This movie did receive a lot of attention after the events of Columbine, and many people consider it one of the best of the school shooting movies. Although it received such a large amount of attention and criticism, it also was successful in its goal of raising awareness to gun violence and to make gun owners and children more aware of the dangers involved with owning guns. Many parents now have children who own guns and it is becoming a rare thing for them to send their kids to public or private schools. The goal of this particular movie was to make people more aware of the fact that there are times when one must utilize their guns and survival skills in order to protect themselves and their friends.

If you are looking for information on how to survive a school, I would recommend watching this movie. It is not only educational for those of us who have never had the experience, but it also is a great entertaining and thrilling film. It is one that everyone should see and if you are able to find it, watch it over again. Even if you do not experience any type of survival situation during your life, it will still provide you with the knowledge and skills that you need in order to survive in any sort of emergency situation. That is a wise choice if you ask me.
